Connect groups are a key part of really getting into the KingsWord London family. God set the solitary in families, and we believe everyone can be part of a small group. God expects us to experience life with other people.
Psalms 68:6 God sets the solitary in families; He brings out those who are bound into prosperity; but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.
God Himself is in a community of three persons in one—the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—who exist in perfect unity. So it is not surprising that from the beginning, God created us to be in community with one another. Genesis 2:18 states: “It is not good for man to be alone.” This passage is often used in the context of marriage, but it also speaks to our fundamental need to connect with others in the human community.
The scriptures say God is passionate about people and His plan starts by putting them in families where they can receive the necessary support they need
The Bible Method
From the old testament to the new, we see the evidence of God’s model of community. When the children of Israel left Egypt and were in the wilderness, the wisdom of God was revealed to Moses through his father-in-law Jethro.
Ex 18:21 (NKJV) “Moreover you shall select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens”.
Jesus in His ministry also used this model of community where He taught in parables to the general public and broke this down for His twelve disciples in private sessions.
This principle was also clearly visible in the early church where they had two sets of meetings; meetings in the temple courts, and meetings from house to house. They worshipped in the temple courts which were massive spaces around the temple that could take 50,000 people and in house meetings for 10-15 people.
They had large group meetings and small group fellowship. As a result of this method, the early church in Jerusalem grew from 120 in the upper room to 100,000 in 25 years in a city with a population of about 250,000, according to church history.
Acts 5:46-47 (AMP) “Day after day they met in the temple [area] continuing with one mind, and breaking bread in various private homes. They were eating their meals together with joy and generous hearts, praising God continually, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord kept adding to their number daily those who were being saved”.
Rom 16:3–5 “Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus, who risked their own necks for my life, to whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles. Likewise greet the church that is in their house”.
From these scriptures, we can see clearly that the idea of meeting in groups is a God idea and not just a good one. Connect groups therefore flow from a scriptural foundation, and have so many benefits for those who participate in them, including individuals and families.
